For dinner we had steak, pasta with Alfredo sauce, broccoli, and two flavors of ice cream sandwiches for desert. First off the apothic red was paired with everything. I did not like this wine with the steak. It did nothing. It was just drinking wine and eating steak, nothing complimented by each other. However, the apothic red went well with both the broccoli and the Alfredo pasta. The broccoli detracted from the bitterness, and the pastahad a weird taste that I have trouble describing, but I though it made the wine better. Next the Beaujolais. This I had mixed feelings about with the steak, the berry flavors didnt pair well, but there was a nice peppery flavor I got with the steak. The creamy flavor from the Alfredo went nicely with the berry flavor from the Beaujolais. With the broccoli, it didn't do anything. neglected to bring any flavors out. Now the Little Bosco was a dessert wine so we had this with two flavors of ice cream sandwiches. The first was the mint flavored ice cream sandwiches. Here the mint made the wine taste very very weird, and not in a good way. However, the Little Bosco with the cookies n'cream flavor paired very, very nicely. The vanilla flavors from both exploded and was a perfect dessert.

Hahn
Name: Hahn Piesporter Michelsberg
Variety: Riesling
Region: Piesport
Country: Germany
Year:
Price $9.95
Winery Review: This wine’s light, airy mouthfeel belies its sweetness and intensity of flavor. Honeyed pineapple aromas; similar flavors on the palate, adding gentle citrus notes toward the long, sweet finish.
My Review: As most Reslings it was sweet and dry, but had a little bitterness. It made it more interesting, and I really like earthy Reslings, which this also had a little of.

Tres Ojos

Variety: Garnacha
Region: Calatayud
Country: Spain
Year: 2012
Price $6.95
Winery Review: 88 points – Robert Parker
"The 2012 Tres Ojos Garnacha contains 15% Tempranillo (I wonder why), and unoaked cuvée of 200,000 bottles that matures in vat for at least seven months before bottling. What I tasted was a very honest, fresh and fruit-driven red with aromas of cherries, garrigue and thyme with a medium-bodied palate, some weight and tannins that would do better with food. This is a red that sells for a song.”

Name: Monte Degli Angeli
Variety: Sangiovese
Region: Puglia
Country: Italy
Price: $7.95
Year: 2013
Winery Review: The aromas are rich and dark, with lots of black cherry and a hint of balsamic. In the mouth the wine is round and energetic, with cherry and black raspberry fruit complemented by hints of damp earth. If you like Sangiovese-based wines like Chianti or our best-selling Colsanto from Umbria, you'll love this! The wine is ripe, fresh, and fruit-driven with a wonderful dash of earthy complexity at the end. Buy it by the case and drink with pizza, grilled poultry, and pasta.
My Review: It was a dry wine with fresh fruit flavors that came through. This wine was also not my favorite just nothing special or anything that grabbed my attention about it. I would not go looking for this in the store.

Winery Review: Paulo Laureano’s Classico is a delicious blend of the native Portuguese varietals Trincadeira (40%), Aragonez (40%) and Alfrocheiro (20%). This is a full bodied red that reveals all that the terroir of Portugal has to offer. Light cigar tobacco and soft leather present beautifully on the nose. Dark, black fruits fill the mouth, but the wine flows smoothly over the palate, with a good bit of spice on the finish. Pair with spicy, cured meats and hard cheeses.

mars and Venus chardonnay

My Review: There was good apple flavors that came through and I got some citrus flavors. I'm not a huge fan of chardonnay but this one isn't oaky like the others. I still think its a good wine, but I don't think I would go out of my way to buy it.
Winery Review:A very nice value Chardonnay that comfortably over-delivers vs. its modest price tag. No oak here, just bushels of clean, crisp, Chardonnay apple and stone fruit with a hint of caramelized pineapple. Juicy and clean, this is a mid-weight white that's just perfect for parties or weeknight sipping.

Winery Review: Riesling Ice is a full-bodied, luxurious wine made from frozen grapes. Aromatics and zesty, each sip explodes with vibrant fruitiness and leaves you with a lively, lingering finish. Savor alone or along with dessert, fresh fruit or soft cheeses and nuts.
My Review: This is a very good dessert wine. It has a very unique sweetness when I taste it, I can't say what the flavors are exactly, but it does kinda hit you. Better yet it does not finish with this sweetness, but lessens in the end. It went well with the ice cream sandwich I was eating.

Variety: Port don't know grape variety
Region Duoro
Country: Portugal
Year: nonvintage
Price: $12
Winery Review: Offley Ruby Port has an attractive and well defined red-ruby hue and lively aroma reminiscent of red fruit with some more complex notes arising from its ageing in oak wood. In the mouth, it has a fine balance between sweetness and mature tannins, it is well structured and it has a long finish. Its elegance and liveliness make it the ideal option for those who enjoy young and accessible Port.
My Review: This wine was hard to describe. At first it seems really sweet, but then the sweetness levels off at the end. I do get a strawberry taste to the wine with a very slight tannic componet at the end.

Region: California
Country: USA

Winery Review: Twisted 2012 Old Vine Zinfandel is medium-bodied with aromas of black cherry, red currant, blackberry bramble and a hint of spice. Concentrated ripe fruit, dark berry flavors
and black pepper carry through to the palate while nicely balanced acidity and plush tannins lead to a lingering finish.
My Review: This is a very tannic wine that I drank while I was eating. It had good cherry flavors and a peppery flavor at the end. I ate it with a cheeseburger, but it didn't do anything with it, but the baked beans I thought took the tannic flavors away and more of the fruity flavors were present.

Variety: Pinot Gris

My Review: I really enjoyed this wine. I thought the vanilla flavors really came out along with the black cherry flavor. I would definitely recommend this wine to anybody. I felt the flavors just came together really well and it just tasted really well.

Name: El Cortijillo
Variety: Verdejo
Region: La Mancha
Country: Spain
Year: 2013
Price: ~ $9-$10
Winery Review: light, bright yellow. Lively mineral-accented aromas of lemon pith and green apple, with a white pepper topnote. Zesty citrus fruit flavors show good clarity and intensity, as well as a slight tartness. The dry, tightly wound finish repeats the lemon note and leaves a bitter quince taste behind. No excess fat here."
- Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (September/October 2014), 87 pts
My Review: I really enjoyed this wine! It had a nice citrus lemony taste that I believed would go great with seafood. It was light, it tasted good, and I would recommend this to everyone.
Name: Resonata
Variety:Nero D'Avola
Region: Sicily
Country: Italy
Year: 2013
Price: $6.95
Winery Review: The grapes are soft pressed and the juice is placed in stainless steel along with the skins for a maceration of 8 to 10 days with daily pumping over of the juice to extract more color and sweet tannins. Dense ruby red with violet reflections. Lush and ripe bouquet full of mulberries, blackberries and spice. Harmonious and well balanced with good berry fruit in a spicy background. Excellent with lamb, grilled and barbecued meats, dishes with olives or capers and seasoned cheeses.
My Review: This red wine was very dry, which makes me believe it would pair well with food, but i was not eating anything while tasting this wine. I didn't enjoy it, but this could change if I tried it with a meal. It had a a little bit of a spicy taste to it, but i could not find the other flavors.

Winery Review: Rich, fruit forward cherry flavors, soft tannins, a medium body and a smooth velvety finish. Pairs well with creamy soups, salmon, and savory pork dishes.
My Review: This was a smooth pinot with clear cherry flavors. It wasn't as tannic as most reds, which leads me to think it might not be the best pair with steak, but i would enjoy drink it casually without a meal.

Angove Sparkling Muscat
Name: Angove Sparkling Muscat
Variety: Zibibbo
Region: Southern Australia
Country: Australia
Year:
Price: $18
Winery Review: The Zibibbo variety is noted for its delightfully fresh aromas and light fresh palate making it the ideal variety to use in sparkling wine. The variety is part of the Muscat family and is delightfully fresh, this frothy, sweet ‘alfresco’ sparkling wine displays crisp floral aromas with citrus peel and creamy flavors on the palate. Pale straw in color, the wine shouts of celebration and exuberance, and with a modest 8% alcohol, is ideal on a lazy sunny afternoon with friends.
My Review: I really enjoyed this wine. It may be because it was sweet and crisp as a sparkling wine should be, and my pallet isn't refined enough for some of the heavier wines yet, but I did really enjoy it. As stated before it was sweet, crisp, fresh, and was just nice on the taste buds.

Country: USA
Year: 2011

Winery Review:Ripe cherry and blackberry fruit stars in this easy-drinking wine, with oak providing toasty sweetness. It’s an everyday, cheeseburger-friendly Merlot.
My Review: I did not like this wine by itself, It was tannic and hard to get down. It was robust and maybe if I had it with a steak it would have been able to get the flavors without all the astringency.

Winery Review: Balanced and lightly creamy, offering pretty flavors of plum sauce and raspberry coulis threaded with hints of ground spice. Elegant, with a floral finish.

Rubus Rosado Prieto Picudo
Name: Rubus Rosado Prieto Picudo
Variety: Prieto Picudo
Region: Tierra de Leon
Country:Spain
Year:2013
Price: $14
Winery Review: Bright clean strawberry rose color. In the nose it is intense and fresh, with strawberry aromas and slight citric hints. In the mouth it is fresh, strong and tasty, emphasizing a delightful tingle due to its carbonic residuals. The name Prieto Picudo means "tight & pointy" (more or less). This is due to the tightly formed bunches and the slightly oval/pointy shape of the grapes. The bunch shape is reminiscent of Tempranillo; the berries are thick skinned, and dark blue-black in color. Prieto Picudo is well adapted to the difficult growing conditions in Castilla y León province - not a lot of rain, very cold winters and scorching hot summers. The vines tend to relatively low yields, with lots of color, concentration and good acidity. Also, it's the same grape as Alfrocheiro Preto in Portugal. Alfrocheiro is an important variety in Dão region of Portugal.
My review: This wine at first taste was tannic or bitter, with the second taste I could taste a bit of the strawberry that was suppose to be there and some other fruity flavors. Overall, wasn't my favorite red wine, but I could picture it going really well with some chocolate.

Winery review: Fresh and juicy, with fresh-cut apple and gooseberry flavors that feature notes of citrus and light spice on the finish. The name “Lagosta” means “lobster,” and this would be a great seafood accompaniment.
My review: To me this wine tasted sweet with citrus flavors as well as buttery. I heard whites do suppose to go well with seafood or chicken, and i can see how it would go well with seafood.

My Experience with Wine so Far
My Experience with Wine so Far
In my life there have been few times in which I would drink wine. Most often its when I am visiting family and would have a small glass with dinner. In these gatherings it was most often a red wine, with only a couple of times having a white wine. The other time I would drink wine is when it was the only alcohol around in which to get drunk off of.
The things about wine I enjoyed all came from the times I drank it at with my family. As stated in class it may the visit less awkward when using it as a social lubricant. Moreover, it made all the older adults a little more crazy, which was fun to watch. Finally, I ended up enjoying the taste of red wine while I ate.
Things i found I didn't like about wine mostly came from the times a tried to get drunk off of it. I found wine hangovers to be easier to get then when I got drunk off beer or liquor. Also the headache could start that night when I was trying to socialize. Finally, I found I like red wine more than I did white, but I haven't had as much white wine as I have red.
